From a Carnegie Hall debut and winning the International Tuba Euphonium Conference's Artist Euphonium Award as just a teenager, to recently being named Outstanding Soloist in Perth, Scotland as a trombonist, William Lloyd Hess has dazzled audiences around the world and has been praised for displaying, "remarkable confidence, accuracy and musical expression across the entire range of the instrument," (ITEA Journal) and for putting on, "a corker of virtuosity." As a soloist and performer, Will has been a frequent Guest Artist at International Tuba Euphonium Conferences,  was a featured soloist at the United States Army Band Tuba Euphonium Workshop, has soloed with several university orchestra and wind ensembles, the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Concert Band, the Atlantic City Brass Band, and was a founding member and soloist with the Fountain City Brass Band.  

 

Currently, Will is a freelance trombonist in his hometown of New Orleans, LA, where he is a Substitute Trombonist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.  Will has also performed with the Dayton Philharmonic, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Acadania Symphony, and West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

 

As a chamber musician, Hess has won an international chamber music award with the Twisted Steel Tuba Euphonium Quartet and has played with several brass quintets throughout his career, including the LPO's Crecent City Brass quintet.

 

Music performance is one of WIll's passions in life.  He has studied the art of euphonium and trombone performance at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Missouri-Kansas City's Conservatory of Music, and the University of Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music.  

 

As an educator, Hess has taught low brass for over a decade and was most recently Montclair State University's Euphonium Instructor, where he taught Performance Practicum, Private Lessons, and was the Director of Montclair State's Tuba Euphonium Ensemble.
